Frequently Asked Questions
The questions we answer on the phone every day. If yours is not here, call +1 503-551-4892 and ask. We would rather answer it before you order than after.
Will an imported engine fit my US car?
Usually, with caveats. The block and rotating assembly are normally identical to the US version of the same engine. The intake, wiring loom, sensors and sometimes the oil pan can differ, and those parts move across from your old engine. Send us the VIN and we will tell you exactly what carries over before you buy.
How do I know which engine I need?
Order by engine code rather than model year. Two cars of the same year and model can carry different engines. The code is stamped on the block and usually printed on the under hood label. If you cannot find it, send the VIN and we will work it out.
What does the 90 day warranty cover?
The internally lubricated parts of the assembly: block, crank, bearings, pistons, rods, head and valve train on an engine, and the gears, shafts, bearings and synchros on a transmission. It does not cover labour, fluids, or wear items such as sensors, water pumps, timing components and clutches. Installation by a licensed shop is required.
How much does shipping cost?
An engine travels on a pallet by freight, and the price depends on your ZIP, whether the address is residential, and whether you need a liftgate. We quote the real number for your address rather than padding every listing. Collection from Grand Rapids is free.
Do you ship to my state?
We ship anywhere in the continental United States. For Alaska, Hawaii or export, ask first and we will work out whether it makes sense.
What mileage are these engines?
They are used units, most of them imported from Japan, where cars come off the road early because inspection costs rise with age. Mileage varies by unit and we will tell you what we know about the one you are looking at. We do not publish a figure we cannot stand behind.
What should I replace during installation?
Timing belt or chain, water pump, thermostat and seals, while the unit is out on the bench. It is a small parts bill at that stage and it is the single biggest factor in whether the engine lasts. Our warranty requires it.
Can I collect in person?
Yes. We are at 1345 Monroe Ave NW, Ste 304, Grand Rapids, MI 49505, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm Eastern. Call ahead so the unit is accessible rather than behind a container load, and you are welcome to look it over before you pay.
Do you take trade ins or buy engines?
We do not require your old unit back and there is no core charge on anything we sell. If you have a running engine to sell, call and describe it.
How long until it ships?
Orders dispatch within two working days of payment clearing and freight being agreed. Transit is normally three to seven working days depending on distance. Smaller parts go by standard carrier and move faster.
