Shipping and Freight

An engine weighs between 250 and 500 pounds and travels bolted to a pallet. That means freight, not parcel post, and freight cannot be priced from a flat table. Here is how it actually works.

How freight is priced

Four things move the number:

  • Where it is going. A commercial address on a main freight lane is the cheapest case.
  • Residential or commercial. Residential delivery costs more, every time.
  • Liftgate. If there is no forklift or loading dock at the delivery end, the truck needs a liftgate to get the pallet to the ground.
  • Limited access. Farms, schools, construction sites, storage yards and rural routes carry a surcharge.

This is why there is no shipping price in the cart for heavy items. We quote the real number for your ZIP instead of padding every listing to cover the worst case.

Getting a freight price

On any engine or transmission listing you will find a freight quote form. Give us the delivery ZIP and tell us whether the address is residential, and we come back with the price, usually the same working day. You can also order online first and we will send the freight price before anything leaves the floor. Nothing ships until you have agreed the number.

Local pickup

Pickup at 1345 Monroe Ave NW, Ste 304, Grand Rapids, MI 49505 is free, and it is the cheapest way to buy from us. Choose local pickup at checkout, and bring a truck or trailer and a way to lift the unit. We can load with a forklift during business hours, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm Eastern.

Dispatch times

  • Orders dispatch within two working days of payment clearing and freight being agreed.
  • Transit is normally three to seven working days depending on distance.
  • Smaller parts and accessories go by standard carrier and move faster.

When the truck arrives

Please do this, because it protects you:

  • Inspect the pallet before you sign. Walk around it and look at the crate, the strapping and the unit itself.
  • If anything is damaged, write it on the delivery receipt before signing. A clean signature on a damaged shipment makes a freight claim very hard to win.
  • Photograph the pallet on the truck if you can, then once it is on the ground.
  • Call us the same day if there is a problem.

Where we ship

Anywhere in the continental United States. For Alaska, Hawaii and export, ask us first and we will work out whether it makes sense.
