JDM to USDM Installation & Technical Guide

To ensure 100% OBDII compliance and a smooth swap, professional Toyota technicians recommend these “External Swap” steps:

  • Solenoid & Harness Transfer: You must transfer your original USDM Transmission Wiring Harness and Solenoids from your old transmission to the JDM unit. JDM electrical plugs can vary by year and region; using your original electronics ensures the ECU recognizes the components instantly and prevents “Check Engine” lights.

  • Speed Sensor (VSS): Reuse your original USDM Speed Sensor. This ensures your speedometer and cruise control remain 100% accurate.

  • Neutral Safety Switch: Transfer your original USDM Neutral Safety Switch (Range Sensor) to ensure your gear indicator and starting circuit function correctly.

  • Fluid Service: Flush your transmission cooler lines thoroughly. Fill only with high-quality Toyota ATF Type T-IV (or equivalent specified on your dipstick). Using the wrong fluid in these older Toyota boxes can lead to harsh shifts and premature seal failure.

What is included

You receive exactly what is pictured. Engines are supplied as a long block assembly with the components visible in the photos. Accessories such as the alternator, starter, intake manifold or sensors are included only where you can see them on the unit, so check the photographs before ordering and ask us if anything is unclear.

Before you order

  • Confirm the engine code against your own vehicle, not just the model year.
  • Japanese market units can differ from the US version in intake, loom and sensors.
  • Replace the timing components, water pump and seals while the unit is out. It is cheap insurance on an engine this age.
  • Keep your original accessories until the swap is finished and running.
