JDM to USDM Installation & Technical Guide
To maintain the precise shifting and OBDII compliance of your Lexus GS, professional technicians recommend these critical steps:
Internal Harness & Solenoids: You must transfer your original USDM Transmission Internal Wire Harness and Solenoids to the JDM unit. JDM electrical connectors on Aristo/Celsior units can vary in pin configuration. Reusing your original USDM electronics ensures the ECU receives the correct data and prevents “Check Engine” lights or shift codes.
Output Flange / Tailshaft: Check your driveshaft connection. Depending on whether the donor vehicle was a GS, LS, or SC, the rear output flange may vary. You may need to swap your original USDM tailshaft flange onto the JDM transmission for a guaranteed fit to your driveshaft.
Neutral Safety Switch: Transfer your original USDM Neutral Safety Switch (Range Sensor). This ensures your dashboard gear indicator and the “Park/Neutral” starting circuit function perfectly.
Fluid Requirements: Use only high-quality Toyota ATF Type T-IV. The A650E is calibrated for the specific friction modifiers in T-IV; using newer WS fluid or generic ATF can cause harsh shifting or accelerated wear.
Cooler Line Flush: It is mandatory to flush the transmission cooler lines and radiator. Any debris from your previous transmission failure will damage the “new” JDM unit if not properly cleared.
What is included
You receive exactly what is pictured. Engines are supplied as a long block assembly with the components visible in the photos. Accessories such as the alternator, starter, intake manifold or sensors are included only where you can see them on the unit, so check the photographs before ordering and ask us if anything is unclear.
Before you order
- Confirm the engine code against your own vehicle, not just the model year.
- Japanese market units can differ from the US version in intake, loom and sensors.
- Replace the timing components, water pump and seals while the unit is out. It is cheap insurance on an engine this age.
- Keep your original accessories until the swap is finished and running.
