Manual Transmission Installation Notes
SERVICE ADVISORY: High-RPM shift points require precise installation steps. Review these professional guidelines before completing your gearbox drop-in:
Transfer USDM Shifter Linkages & Brackets: JDM transmissions originate from right-hand drive models. You MUST remove the JDM external shift-selector arms and reuse your original USDM shifter cable brackets and vehicle speed sensor (VSS) to mate perfectly with your factory dashboard and center console controls.
Install Fresh Clutch Hardware: Never mount a transmission onto a used clutch assembly. Install a brand-new clutch disc, heavy-duty pressure plate, throw-out bearing, and pilot bearing. Always resurface or replace the flywheel to guarantee clean engagement.
Replace Differential Seals: Take advantage of the transmission being out of the vehicle and install new driver-side and passenger-side CV axle seals to avoid fluid weeping down the road.
Inspect Bellhousing Mounts: Check all aluminum engine-to-transmission alignment dowels and structural mounts. Ensure everything is clear of road debris before torqueing bolts to factory spec.
Fluid Protocols: Fill the transmission casing using only premium Genuine Honda Manual Transmission Fluid (MTF) or a specialized performance alternative like Redline MTL. Avoid generic, overly viscous gear oils, as they slow down the synchronization process and cause gear grinds under hard acceleration.
What is included
You receive exactly what is pictured. Engines are supplied as a long block assembly with the components visible in the photos. Accessories such as the alternator, starter, intake manifold or sensors are included only where you can see them on the unit, so check the photographs before ordering and ask us if anything is unclear.
Before you order
- Confirm the engine code against your own vehicle, not just the model year.
- Japanese market units can differ from the US version in intake, loom and sensors.
- Replace the timing components, water pump and seals while the unit is out. It is cheap insurance on an engine this age.
- Keep your original accessories until the swap is finished and running.
