Vehicle Fitment
This transmission serves as a direct replacement for the following North American models:
Toyota Highlander AWD (3.3L V6): 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007
Compatibility Note: Specifically for the 3.3L engine and AWD drivetrain. It will not fit the 2.4L 4-cylinder models or the 2001–2003 3.0L models, nor will it fit Front-Wheel Drive (FWD) vehicles due to different casing and transfer case outputs.
JDM to USDM Installation & Technical Guide
To ensure 100% OBDII compliance and prevent “Check Engine” lights or shift solenoid codes, professional Toyota technicians recommend these critical steps:
Solenoid & Harness Transfer: You must transfer your original USDM internal wire harness and solenoids to the JDM unit. JDM electrical plugs frequently vary; using your original USDM electronics ensures the ECU receives the correct data and prevents harsh shift codes.
Neutral Safety Switch: Reuse your original USDM Neutral Safety Switch (Range Sensor). This ensures your dashboard gear indicator and starting circuit function exactly as they did before.
Transfer Case: While most JDM units include the transfer case, always verify the output flanges match your USDM driveshafts. Many installers choose to bolt their original USDM Transfer Case onto the JDM transmission for a guaranteed fit.
Fluid Service: These transmissions require high-quality Toyota ATF Type T-IV. It is mandatory to flush the transmission cooler lines and radiator to remove any debris from your failed unit that could damage the JDM replacement.
What is included
You receive exactly what is pictured. Engines are supplied as a long block assembly with the components visible in the photos. Accessories such as the alternator, starter, intake manifold or sensors are included only where you can see them on the unit, so check the photographs before ordering and ask us if anything is unclear.
Before you order
- Confirm the engine code against your own vehicle, not just the model year.
- Japanese market units can differ from the US version in intake, loom and sensors.
- Replace the timing components, water pump and seals while the unit is out. It is cheap insurance on an engine this age.
- Keep your original accessories until the swap is finished and running.
