This engine serves as a direct long-block replacement for the following North American models:

  • Subaru Legacy (2.5i Models): 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016

  • Compatibility Note: Specifically for models using the FB25 series. Ensure your current vehicle has a timing chain front cover rather than a plastic timing belt cover.

JDM to USDM Installation & Swap Guide

To ensure 100% “plug-and-play” functionality and maintain US emissions standards, professional technicians recommend the following “External Swap” steps:

  • Long Block Strategy: Use the JDM motor as a long block only. You must transfer your original Intake Manifold, Exhaust Manifold, and Fuel System to the JDM block.

  • Wiring & Sensors: Always retain and use your original USDM Engine Wiring Harness. Transfer all sensors (Crank, Cam, Knock, etc.) from your old engine to ensure perfect communication with your factory ECU.

  • Accessories: Transfer your original Alternator, A/C Compressor, and Power Steering Pump. This ensures all electrical connectors and mounting brackets align perfectly with your chassis.

  • EGR System: Use your original USDM EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) and PCV components to prevent emissions-related Check Engine Lights.

  • Preventative Maintenance: While the engine is out, we strongly recommend installing new spark plugs, a water pump, and a fresh thermostat for long-term peace of mind.

What is included

You receive exactly what is pictured. Engines are supplied as a long block assembly with the components visible in the photos. Accessories such as the alternator, starter, intake manifold or sensors are included only where you can see them on the unit, so check the photographs before ordering and ask us if anything is unclear.

Before you order

  • Confirm the engine code against your own vehicle, not just the model year.
  • Japanese market units can differ from the US version in intake, loom and sensors.
  • Replace the timing components, water pump and seals while the unit is out. It is cheap insurance on an engine this age.
  • Keep your original accessories until the swap is finished and running.
