  • Toyota Tacoma: 1995–2004 (3.4L V6 Models)

  • Toyota T100: 1995–1998 (3.4L V6 Models)

  • Toyota Tundra: 2000–2004 (3.4L V6 Models)

JDM to USDM Installation & Swap Guide

To ensure 100% compatibility and maintain your 4Runner’s emissions and drivability, professional Toyota technicians recommend the following “External Swap” steps:

  1. Intake & Exhaust Manifolds: You must transfer your original USDM Intake Manifold and Exhaust Manifolds. JDM versions may lack specific EGR ports, vacuum bungs, or oxygen sensor locations required for North American OBDII emissions compliance.

  2. Wiring Harness: Always retain and use your original USDM Engine Wiring Harness. JDM harnesses are configured for right-hand drive and will not interface with your 4Runner’s chassis bulkheads or fuse box.

  3. Engine Sensors: Transfer your original USDM Camshaft and Crankshaft Sensors. Toyota electronics are highly sensitive; using your original “known-good” sensors prevent intermittent signal issues or CEL codes.

  4. Oil Pan: Inspect the JDM oil pan. Depending on the donor vehicle (e.g., Granvia or HiAce), you must transfer your original USDM 4Runner Oil Pan and Pickup Tube to ensure proper subframe and front differential clearance.

  5. Dipstick Location: On some JDM 5VZ-FE blocks, the dipstick is in a different location. You may need to use the pre-marked “boss” on the block to move your original USDM dipstick tube to the correct 4Runner position.

What is included

You receive exactly what is pictured. Engines are supplied as a long block assembly with the components visible in the photos. Accessories such as the alternator, starter, intake manifold or sensors are included only where you can see them on the unit, so check the photographs before ordering and ask us if anything is unclear.

Before you order

  • Confirm the engine code against your own vehicle, not just the model year.
  • Japanese market units can differ from the US version in intake, loom and sensors.
  • Replace the timing components, water pump and seals while the unit is out. It is cheap insurance on an engine this age.
  • Keep your original accessories until the swap is finished and running.
