Vehicle Fitment

This engine is a direct long-block replacement for the following North American models:

  • Toyota T100: 1997, 1998 (2.7L Models)

  • Toyota Tacoma: 1995–2004 (2.7L 4WD and PreRunner Models)

  • Toyota 4Runner: 1996–2000 (2.7L Models)

  • Compatibility Note: This is the Coil-Type ignition version. If you are replacing a 1994–1996 Distributor-type engine, you must transfer your original distributor and related components to the JDM block.

JDM to USDM Installation & Swap Guide

To ensure 100% compatibility and maintain your T100’s emissions and drivability, professional Toyota technicians recommend the following “External Swap” steps:

  1. Intake & Exhaust Manifolds: You must transfer your original USDM Intake Manifold and Exhaust Manifold. JDM versions often lack specific vacuum bungs, EVAP sensors, or oxygen sensor locations required for North American OBDII emissions compliance.

  2. Wiring Harness: Always retain and use your original USDM Engine Wiring Harness. JDM harnesses are configured for right-hand drive and will not interface with your T100’s chassis bulkheads or ECU.

  3. Engine Sensors: Transfer your original USDM Camshaft and Crankshaft Sensors. Toyota electronics are highly sensitive; using your original “known-good” sensors prevents intermittent signal issues or CEL codes.

  4. Oil Pan: Inspect the JDM oil pan. Depending on the donor vehicle (e.g., HiAce or Hilux Surf), you must transfer your original USDM T100 Oil Pan and Pickup Tube to ensure proper subframe clearance.

  5. Ignition Components: Ensure your USDM ignition coils or distributor setup are transferred to the JDM block to match your factory harness plugs.

What is included

You receive exactly what is pictured. Engines are supplied as a long block assembly with the components visible in the photos. Accessories such as the alternator, starter, intake manifold or sensors are included only where you can see them on the unit, so check the photographs before ordering and ask us if anything is unclear.

Before you order

  • Confirm the engine code against your own vehicle, not just the model year.
  • Japanese market units can differ from the US version in intake, loom and sensors.
  • Replace the timing components, water pump and seals while the unit is out. It is cheap insurance on an engine this age.
  • Keep your original accessories until the swap is finished and running.
