USDM to JDM Swap Installation Notes

Important Installation Information

This JDM 1NZ-FXE engine is designed for installation into USDM 2004-2009 Toyota Prius NHW20 vehicles. While the core engine assembly is compatible, certain external components must be transferred from the original USDM engine to ensure proper fitment and emissions compliance.

Components Recommended for Transfer from Original USDM Engine

  • Intake Manifold Assembly
  • Exhaust Manifold Assembly
  • Throttle Body
  • Engine Wiring Harness
  • Fuel Injectors
  • Engine Sensors and Switches
  • EGR Components (where applicable)
  • Vacuum Solenoids
  • Engine Mount Brackets
  • Accessory Brackets
  • Water Pump Components
  • Emissions Equipment

ECU & Hybrid System Compatibility

  • Original USDM ECU should be retained.
  • Original inverter, transaxle, hybrid battery, and wiring systems should remain in place.
  • Reuse factory USDM electronics for seamless communication with vehicle systems.
  • Verify all connectors and sensors match original vehicle specifications prior to installation.

Recommended Service Before Installation

  • Replace spark plugs.
  • Install new engine oil and filter.
  • Replace coolant and inspect cooling system.
  • Inspect PCV valve and vacuum hoses.
  • Replace worn belts, seals, and gaskets as needed.
  • Verify hybrid system health before engine installation.

Professional Installation Recommended

Hybrid vehicle engine replacement requires specialized knowledge of Toyota hybrid systems. Professional installation is recommended to ensure proper engine operation, system integration, and emissions compliance.

What is included

You receive exactly what is pictured. Engines are supplied as a long block assembly with the components visible in the photos. Accessories such as the alternator, starter, intake manifold or sensors are included only where you can see them on the unit, so check the photographs before ordering and ask us if anything is unclear.

Before you order

  • Confirm the engine code against your own vehicle, not just the model year.
  • Japanese market units can differ from the US version in intake, loom and sensors.
  • Replace the timing components, water pump and seals while the unit is out. It is cheap insurance on an engine this age.
  • Keep your original accessories until the swap is finished and running.
