Vehicle Fitment & Swap Compatibility
This engine is a direct replacement or popular swap for the following:
Mitsubishi Airtrek Turbo-R (Japan Spec): 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005
Mitsubishi Outlander (USDM): 2003–2006 (Requires Turbo conversion components: ECU, Harness, Exhaust)
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution Note: While the Airtrek 4G63T shares the same block architecture as the Evo 7/8, it uses a smaller TD04 turbo and different intake manifold plenum for better low-end response.
JDM to USDM Installation & Technical Guide
To ensure a successful installation and 100% functionality, professional Mitsubishi tuners recommend these steps:
Wiring & ECU: If swapping into a non-turbo USDM Outlander, you will need the Airtrek Turbo ECU and Engine Wiring Harness. If replacing an existing Airtrek motor, simply transfer your original accessories to the JDM block to ensure plug-and-play compatibility.
Timing Belt Component Service: While the engine is out, we strongly recommend replacing the Timing Belt, Water Pump, and Balance Shaft Belt. JDM engines sit in transit, and rubber components can stiffen; this is the cheapest insurance for a 4G63.
Intake & Exhaust Manifolds: Check for shipping damage. It is often best to reuse your original manifolds and turbo components if they are in known good condition to ensure all vacuum lines and downpipe flanges line up perfectly.
Fuel System: The Airtrek 4G63T requires Premium 91+ Octane Fuel. Ensure your fuel pump is capable of handling turbo boost levels if you are performing a conversion.
Fluid Requirements: Use high-quality 5W-30 or 10W-30 Full Synthetic Oil and an OEM Mitsubishi oil filter to maintain the health of the turbocharger bearings.
What is included
You receive exactly what is pictured. Engines are supplied as a long block assembly with the components visible in the photos. Accessories such as the alternator, starter, intake manifold or sensors are included only where you can see them on the unit, so check the photographs before ordering and ask us if anything is unclear.
Before you order
- Confirm the engine code against your own vehicle, not just the model year.
- Japanese market units can differ from the US version in intake, loom and sensors.
- Replace the timing components, water pump and seals while the unit is out. It is cheap insurance on an engine this age.
- Keep your original accessories until the swap is finished and running.
