Vehicle Fitment
This transmission serves as a direct replacement for the following North American models:
Toyota 4Runner 4WD (SR5, Sport, Limited, Trail): 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015
Toyota FJ Cruiser 4WD: 2007–2014
Toyota Tacoma 4WD (4.0L): 2005–2015
Compatibility Note: Specifically for the 4.0L V6. Please verify your vehicle’s production year. For 2005–2009 (4th Gen) and 2010–2015 (5th Gen), ensure you reuse your original external sensors to maintain 100% ECU compatibility.
JDM to USDM Installation & Technical Guide
To ensure 100% OBDII compliance and a smooth swap, professional Toyota technicians recommend these “External Swap” steps:
Solenoid & Internal Harness Transfer: You must transfer your original USDM internal wire harness and solenoids from your old transmission to the JDM unit. JDM plugs and electrical resistance values can vary; using your original electronics ensures the ECU recognizes the components instantly and prevents “Check Engine” lights.
Speed Sensors: Reuse your original USDM Input and Output Speed Sensors. This ensures your speedometer, cruise control, and ATRAC systems remain perfectly calibrated.
Transfer Case: While JDM units usually come with a transfer case, we recommend bolting your original USDM Transfer Case onto the JDM transmission housing. This guarantees that your 4WD actuator and shifter linkage align perfectly with your interior controls.
Fluid Service: This is a “Sealed” transmission system (no dipstick). Use ONLY Toyota ATF WS (World Standard). Following the proper overflow-plug level check procedure at the correct operating temperature is critical for shift quality and longevity.
What is included
You receive exactly what is pictured. Engines are supplied as a long block assembly with the components visible in the photos. Accessories such as the alternator, starter, intake manifold or sensors are included only where you can see them on the unit, so check the photographs before ordering and ask us if anything is unclear.
Before you order
- Confirm the engine code against your own vehicle, not just the model year.
- Japanese market units can differ from the US version in intake, loom and sensors.
- Replace the timing components, water pump and seals while the unit is out. It is cheap insurance on an engine this age.
- Keep your original accessories until the swap is finished and running.
