To ensure 100% OBDII compliance and smooth gear engagement, professional technicians recommend these critical steps:
Internal Harness & Solenoid Swap: You must transfer your original USDM internal wire harness and solenoids to the JDM unit. JDM electrical connectors frequently differ; using your original USDM electronics ensures the ECU receives the correct data and prevents “Check Engine” lights or limp mode.
Transfer Case: While this unit includes the JDM transfer case, FJ Cruiser owners often have specific transfer case configurations (Part-time vs. Full-time). We recommend bolting your original USDM Transfer Case onto the JDM transmission to ensure your 4WD shifter and sensors function exactly as they did from the factory.
Speed Sensors: Reuse your original USDM Input and Output Speed Sensors. This ensures your speedometer, cruise control, and A-TRAC systems remain 100% accurate.
Fluid Service: This is a “Sealed” transmission. Use ONLY Toyota ATF WS (World Standard). Ensure the fluid is leveled using the overflow plug procedure at the specific temperature range (97°F–115°F) for optimal shifting.

Accessories such as the alternator, starter, intake manifold or sensors are included only where you can see them on the unit, so check the photographs before ordering and ask us if anything is unclear.
Before you order
- Confirm the engine code against your own vehicle, not just the model year.
- Japanese market units can differ from the US version in intake, loom and sensors.
- Replace the timing components, water pump and seals while the unit is out. It is cheap insurance on an engine this age.
