Vehicle Fitment

This engine is a direct long-block replacement for the following North American models:

  • Pontiac Vibe (Base): 2003, 2004, 2005

  • Trims: Base (Front-Wheel Drive and AWD models)

  • Chassis Cross-Compatibility: Also fits 2003–2008 Toyota Matrix (Base/XR) and 2000–2008 Toyota Corolla.

  • Compatibility Note: This engine is for the Vibe Base and is not compatible with the Vibe GT (2ZZ-GE).

JDM to USDM Installation & Swap Guide

To ensure 100% compatibility and a seamless “Plug-and-Play” installation into your USDM Vibe, professional installers recommend the following “External Swap” steps:

  1. Intake & Exhaust Manifolds: You must transfer your original USDM Intake Manifold and Exhaust Manifold. JDM versions may have different vacuum line routing or lack the specific emissions ports (EGR/O2) required for North American smog compliance.

  2. Engine Sensors: Transfer your original USDM Camshaft, Crankshaft, and Knock Sensors to the JDM block to ensure the ECU receives familiar signals and prevents Check Engine Lights (CEL).

  3. Wiring Harness: Always retain and use your original USDM Engine Wiring Harness. JDM harnesses are configured for right-hand drive and will not interface with your chassis or fuse box.

  4. Valve Cover: If your USDM Vibe has specific PCV valve locations or breather hose configurations, swap your original Valve Cover onto the JDM engine.

  5. Flywheel/Flexplate: Ensure you use the flywheel (Manual) or flexplate (Automatic) that matches your specific transmission.

  6. Oil Pan: Inspect the JDM oil pan; if the shape differs slightly from your original (especially on AWD models), swap your USDM pan and pickup tube to ensure proper clearance with the subframe and transfer case.

What is included

You receive exactly what is pictured. Engines are supplied as a long block assembly with the components visible in the photos. Accessories such as the alternator, starter, intake manifold or sensors are included only where you can see them on the unit, so check the photographs before ordering and ask us if anything is unclear.

Before you order

  • Confirm the engine code against your own vehicle, not just the model year.
  • Japanese market units can differ from the US version in intake, loom and sensors.
  • Replace the timing components, water pump and seals while the unit is out. It is cheap insurance on an engine this age.
  • Keep your original accessories until the swap is finished and running.
