Manual Transmission Installation Notes
SERVICE ADVISORY: To ensure immediate smooth gear transitions and protect your drivetrain warranty, follow these professional mechanics guidelines before dropping the gearbox in:
Transfer Sensors & External Linkages: JDM transmissions are pulled from right-hand drive vehicles. You MUST reuse your original USDM backup light switch, vehicle speed sensor (VSS), and manual shifter cable brackets to match your factory cabin controls.
Always Use Fresh Clutch Hardware: Never install a used clutch disc or pressure plate. Always install a new clutch kit, throw-out bearing, pilot bearing, and a resurfaced or brand-new flywheel while the transmission case is out of the vehicle.
Inspect Axle Seals: While the unit is sitting on a bench, replace both the driver-side and passenger-side differential axle seals to prevent transmission fluid leaks down the line.
Critical Fluid Specification: Refill the casing exclusively with Genuine Honda Manual Transmission Fluid (MTF) or a high-grade performance fluid like Redline MTL. Avoid standard generic thick gear oils, as they will cause the close-ratio synchros to grind at high RPMs.
What is included
You receive exactly what is pictured. Engines are supplied as a long block assembly with the components visible in the photos. Accessories such as the alternator, starter, intake manifold or sensors are included only where you can see them on the unit, so check the photographs before ordering and ask us if anything is unclear.
Before you order
- Confirm the engine code against your own vehicle, not just the model year.
- Japanese market units can differ from the US version in intake, loom and sensors.
- Replace the timing components, water pump and seals while the unit is out. It is cheap insurance on an engine this age.
- Keep your original accessories until the swap is finished and running.
