  • Compatibility Note: This transmission is strictly for Hybrid models. It will not fit standard gasoline-only Crosstreks. Please verify the transmission code (TH58…) on the driver-side strut tower or door jamb plate before ordering.

JDM to USDM Installation & Technical Guide

Installing a JDM Hybrid transmission requires specific steps to ensure the Hybrid Control Unit (HCU) and TCM communicate correctly:

  • Safety Warning: This transmission interfaces with the High-Voltage (HV) battery system. Installation should only be performed by a technician qualified to work on hybrid vehicles. Ensure the Service Plug on the HV battery is removed before installation.

  • Component Transfer: You must transfer your original USDM Transmission Wiring Harness and External Sensors to the JDM unit. This ensures the USDM computer sees the correct resistance and data values, preventing “Check Hybrid System” warnings.

  • Fluid Requirements: Use ONLY Subaru High Torque CVT Fluid (Orange/Green as specified). Using standard CVT fluid or generic ATF will cause internal slippage and immediate damage to the hybrid motor-generator unit.

  • TCM Calibration: After installation, the vehicle may require a “Learning Value Reset” using a Subaru-compatible scan tool (like SSM4) to calibrate the clutch engagement points and the electric motor integration.

You receive exactly what is pictured. Engines are supplied as a long block assembly with the components visible in the photos. Accessories such as the alternator, starter, intake manifold or sensors are included only where you can see them on the unit, so check the photographs before ordering and ask us if anything is unclear.

Before you order

  • Confirm the engine code against your own vehicle, not just the model year.
  • Japanese market units can differ from the US version in intake, loom and sensors.
  • Replace the timing components, water pump and seals while the unit is out. It is cheap insurance on an engine this age.
  • Keep your original accessories until the swap is finished and running.
